FAQ: What is a Stationary Exhaust Gas Analyzer?

A Stationary Exhaust Gas Analyzer is a fixed (non-portable) measurement system designed to continuously monitor and analyze the composition of exhaust gases emitted by engines, vehicles, or industrial equipment.

It measures the concentration of key exhaust components such as CO (carbon monoxide), CO₂ (carbon dioxide), NOx (nitrogen oxides), HC (hydrocarbons), and O₂ (oxygen).

Unlike portable analyzers, which are used for spot checks or field testing, stationary analyzers are permanently installed in a test cell or laboratory. They are used for continuous, high-precision monitoring during engine or vehicle testing, emission certification, or long-term research

Typical Applications are automotive engine and vehicle test benches, emission certification and compliance testing, R&D in fuel efficiency and emission reduction or industrial combustion optimization (e.g., boilers, turbines).

Stationary Exhaust Gas Analyzers work by drawing a sample of exhaust gas, conditioning it (e.g., removing moisture and particulates), and measuring gas concentrations using techniques like NDIR (non-dispersive infrared), CLD (chemiluminescence detection), FID (flame ionization detection) or HORIBA’s next-generation infrared gas analysis technology IRLAM.
