Green Future Lab: HORIBA Thailand Inspires Children to Explore Science and Sustainability

More than 40 elementary school students at Anuban Wat Suanhong School in Suphan Buri Province, Thailand, participated in hands-on experiments, environmental games, and community activities as part of HORIBA (Thailand) Limited’s 2026 corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. Held under the theme “Green Future Lab: Empowering Thai Kids for a Sustainable World,” the program made science accessible and relatable through interactive activities.

Now in its second year, the program continues to support education, promote environmental awareness, and encourage children to discover the joy of science. It also reflects HORIBA’s vision of “Joy and Fun for All,” with HORIBA Thailand employees sharing their expertise to create a meaningful and memorable experience for the students.

Discovering Science Through Hands-on Activities

The program featured four interactive learning stations that connected scientific concepts with familiar aspects of everyday life.

Calcium Champions

At “Calcium Champions,” the students explored the calcium content of three types of milk: cow’s milk, goat’s milk, and soy milk. Under the guidance from HORIBA Thailand employees, they learned how the MESA-50 X-ray Fluorescence Analyzer can be used to analyze the composition of everyday foods.

By comparing the measurement results, the students gained a better understanding of the differences in calcium content among the samples. They also learned why calcium is important for healthy growth and strong bones, while discovering how science and analytical instruments can be applied to questions related to everyday life.

Water Detectives

At “Water Detectives,” the students learned how scientists assess water quality using the U-50 Multi-Parameter Water Quality Checker.

They examined three samples—tap water, water mixed with detergent, and Coca-Cola—and observed differences in the measurement results for each sample. Through this activity, the students learned that the measured characteristics of a liquid depend on its composition.

The activity also highlighted the importance of water quality monitoring in protecting natural resources and the environment. It showed the students how science and measurement technology can help address real-world environmental challenges.

Eco Heroes BINGO

“Eco Heroes BINGO” was an environmental-themed game that encouraged the students to learn through fun and friendly competition. The activity helped reinforce environmental concepts in an enjoyable and interactive way.

Piece Together the Future

In “Piece Together the Future,” the students worked together to complete a tree-shaped jigsaw puzzle representing the seeds of “Joy and Fun.”
The activity symbolized how small, positive actions can grow into meaningful change and contribute to a greener future. It also encouraged teamwork and showed the students how everyone can play a role in creating a more sustainable world.

Bringing HORIBA Technology to Life

Given the students were between 6 and 12 years old, HORIBA Thailand employees demonstrated how the MESA-50 and U-50 operate rather than asking the children operate the instruments independently. The students observed the testing process up close and participated in the activities under the team’s guidance.

The team explained how HORIBA’s analytical instruments are used in real-world applications, including analyzing the nutritional value of food and monitoring water quality to help protect the environment. The scientific principles behind each experiment were explained in a simple and age-appropriate way.

Interactive demonstrations, encouragement, and small rewards helped keep the students engaged and enthusiastic throughout the program.

Learning, Sharing, and Taking Action

At the end of the learning activities, HORIBA Thailand organized a science and environmental quiz. The students eagerly raised their hands to answer questions and confidently shared their ideas.
Even when they were unsure about answers to questions related to the history of science, the students openly shared their own thoughts and perspectives. Their openness created many memorable and heartwarming moments.

When asked about their future careers, the students shared a wide range of inspiring dreams, reflecting their curiosity, imagination, and aspirations. Many students also answered questions about the learning stations accurately and confidently, showing how well they had understood the lessons.
Their active participation showed that the program successfully captured their interest and helped make science enjoyable, accessible, and meaningful.

Science and Environmental Quiz

The program also included donations of educational and sports equipment to the school. Following the donations, school representatives and HORIBA Thailand employees took part in a tree-planting activity, turning the day’s environmental message into direct action.

Building a Greener Future Together

By combining science education, environmental awareness, and hands-on learning, Green Future Lab encouraged the students to explore science with curiosity and develop a sense of responsibility toward their community and the environment.

The HORIBA Thailand team emphasized that science plays an important role in everyday life. They also explained that small actions—such as choosing nutritious food, conserving water, and caring for the environment—can contribute to a more sustainable future.

Through these experiences, the students gained scientific knowledge and saw HORIBA’s vision “Joy and Fun for All”  in action. The activity also gave HORIBA Thailand employees an opportunity to share their expertise and connect with the local community.

Together, we learn, grow, and create a greener future with “Joy and Fun for All.”
