Membrane Fouling in Advanced Water Treatment

Membrane technologies (reverse osmosis, forward osmosis, ultrafiltration, microfiltration, or nanofiltration) are often used in advanced water treatment and water reuse, however, membrane fouling occurs when contaminants deposit on the surface of a membrane, which leads to deterioration of membrane performance and decrease in treatment efficiency.

Scientists and engineers investigate membrane fouling mechanisms, mainly organic fouling issues, by monitoring the Natural Organic Matter (NOM) fluorescence fingerprints with the Aqualog.
