Life Science Business Development Manager

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Life Science Business Development Manager is responsible for developing and managing the North American strategic Life Science activities of HORIBA, with a primary focus on the pharmaceutical industry [LK1]. The right candidate should also make sure to keep strategic development aligned with the company's products and services and HORIBA's global efforts in life science. The day-to-day duties include the following:

  • Identify and manage strategic collaborations with KOLs, associations, and consortia to support strategy development, execution, and value proposition testing.
  • Use your market expertise to support Marcom in developing effective product marketing, assisting in creating and developing market-facing campaigns.
  • Provide “voice of the customer” input to product management, sharing life science-specific development requirements, and influencing product development roadmaps.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Our team works collaboratively to develop and implement a 5-year strategic roadmap, incorporating collaborative ideas to create innovative solutions to complex challenges.  You will deliver growth by addressing market drivers and customer requirements, creating, and implementing tactical plans by working with cross-functional teams (marketing, product management, sales, life science account management, R&D), and across product lines (spectroscopy, particle, medical).

  • Track tactical activity on a weekly basis.
  • Monitor growth against the plan on a quarterly basis.
  • Update global senior management every 6 months.
  • Create an annual Life Science Marketing Strategy document that:
  • Defines short-term marketing targets and achievements.
  • Provides competitive analyses.
  • Highlights market trends that impact strategy or implementation,
  • Defines “pain points” around technology, applications, customer workflow expectations, etc.
  • Supports the marketing communication team in the execution of associated campaigns,
  • Track changes in regulatory requirements and communicate their impact on strategic plans.
  • Be part of product launch activities that are related to life science products, providing value propositions for life science, contributing to articles, application notes, collaborative publications with KOLs, and other material that helps to define and promote HORIBA’s contribution.

 

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

Interfaces with several key functions in the company, including sales, marketing, sales administration, service, production, and engineering.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Proficiency in conducting market, competitor, and customer research to gather insights and assess market opportunities
  • Experience in evaluating trends and opportunities within the life science market segment, including market size, key industry trends, solution and service requirements, and customer pain point definition.
  • Expertise in creating value propositions and messaging strategies to link product launches to organizational campaign themes.
  • Responsible for leading and influencing cross-functional teams to deliver the strategy.
  • A proven track record of working across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Comfortable working with technologies and scientists
  • Ability to translate quantitative data into actionable recommendations.
  • Strong communicator, including presentation development and delivery skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in messaging and positioning offerings.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as needed with an average of 30% of work time.

 

Education and/or experience

Bachelor's degree in science or technology discipline MSc, PhD, or MBA are preferred.

Ideally, 5+ years of experience in professional marketing environments within analytics for the pharmaceutical industry
