HORIBA Advanced Techno, Co., Ltd. (“HORIBA Advanced Techno”) is pleased to announce the launch of the LAQUA-TB220, a new portable turbidity meter and the latest addition to the renowned LAQUA series of comprehensive water quality analyzers.
Since developing Japan’s first*1 glass electrode pH meter in 1950, HORIBA has continuously delivered innovative water quality measurement solutions utilizing its proprietary technologies. The new LAQUA-TB220 is the series’ first portable turbidity meter. It enables measurements in a wide range of environments, including wastewater and drainage management, as well as the quality control of food, beverages, and other items in laboratories.
Applying a ratio nephelometric method using scattered light and transmitted light signals makes this entry-level model easy for anyone to operate while minimizing the effects of ambient temperature changes and sample colors. It enables highly accurate and stable measurements*2 across a wide turbidity range, from as low as 0.01 NTU up to 2000 NTU*3 on the high end.
The LAQUA-TB220’s compact design (21 cm height, 11 cm width, 5.5 cm depth, and weighing 410 g*4) ensures outstanding portability, while its robust waterproof and dustproof construction*5 enables reliable turbidity measurements in a variety of field conditions.
The internal memory can store up to 2,000 measurement entries, making it well-suited for sites that require frequent usage. It can also be connected to a computer to transfer data, summarizing a report and review, and thereby contributing to greater operational efficiency and enhanced quality.
Kentaro Inoue, the business owner of the water business at HORIBA Advanced Techno, explains:
“Turbidity meters, which measure water cloudiness, play a crucial role in environmental monitoring and industrial quality control. In recent years, stricter wastewater discharge standards and growing concerns over sudden water quality deterioration caused by natural disasters and aging infrastructure have obligated companies and municipalities to establish water quality management systems capable of rapid and flexible responses. To address these needs, we have developed a portable turbidity meter capable of performing measurements in a wide range of environments, both indoors and outdoors. This product will be an essential tool for early detection and management of water quality deviations, supporting users in maintaining optimal water standards.
We are committed to being your trusted partner in water quality measurement systems and technologies.”
*1 Based on in-house research.
*2 Repeatability is “the larger of ±2% or ±0.02 NTU relative to the measured value.” For example, a sample with a measured value of 1 NTU has an error margin of ±0.02 NTU or less, while a sample with a measured value of 10 NTU has an error margin of ±0.2 NTU or less.
*3 An abbreviation of Nephelometric Turbidity Unit. A unit used to measure water turbidity; the higher the value, the cloudier the water.
*4 This weight does not include the four AA alkaline batteries that power the device.
*5 Waterproof/dustproof construction: Equivalent to IP67 (excluding the vial mounting part).
