Compared to fluids, engineers’ training and education in bulk solids handling is lacking. Perhaps this is why it is often easy to identify the lines and equipment in a plant that handle powders — they are the ones with the hammer marks.
This webinar will discuss how to (1) solve or prevent solids flow problems in storage vessels, such as arching, ratholing, segregation, caking, and erratic flow, (2) measure the fundamental flow properties of powders (i.e., cohesive strength, internal friction, wall friction, compressibility, and permeability), and (3) design hoppers, bins, and silos for reliable flow or predict solids flow in existing storage vessels.
Guest Speaker:
Greg Mehos, Ph.D., P.E. is the director of Greg Mehos & Associates LLC and is a chemical engineering consultant who specializes in bulk solids handling, storage and processing and an adjunct professor at the University of Rhode Island. Greg enjoys teaching professionals and students bulk solids engineering fundamentals so that they can solve powder-handling problems and design equipment for reliable handling of solids.
