HORIBA’s new THz-Raman® Spectroscopy Module extends the range of traditional Raman spectroscopy into the terahertz/low-frequency regime, exploring the same range of energy transitions as terahertz spectroscopy – without limiting the ability to measure the fingerprint region. This region reveals a new “Structural Fingerprint” to complement the traditional “Chemical Fingerprint” of Raman, enabling simultaneous analysis of both molecular structure and chemical composition in one instrument for advanced materials characterization.
Clear real-time differentiation of structural attributes of the material enables clear identification and analysis of polymorphs, raw material sources, defects and contamination, crystal formation, phase monitoring and synthesis methods.
In-situ, real-time measurement of both composition and structural analysis eliminates the need for multiple samples and instruments, lowering capital, training and maintenance costs.

Overview
No one has more experience in designing and manufacturing high quality Raman systems than HORIBA Scientific, from modular Raman microscopes to triple Raman spectrometers. The THz Raman module extends HORIBA’s Raman offerings to a bench-top ultra-low frequency Raman spectrometer for macroscopic measurements. Using superior optical components and design, the THz-Raman module provides an easy‑to‑use, yet highly sensitive instrument for both routine and complex Raman measurements.
Hardware
Detector
A range of detectors are available for integrating into your own Raman experiment, with different chip architectures and various degrees of cooling to suit all requirements. Whether the application is for rapid measurements or very weak Raman scattering samples, there is a detector to match.
- High sensitivity CCD detectors for UV-VIS
- Linear InGaAs arrays for near-IR response
- Deep cooling for low dark current (thermoelectric or LN2 cooling)
Laser
The THz Raman module is available with three wavelength excitation sources; 532 nm (25 mW to 250 mW), 785 nm (60 mW), and 850 nm (60 mW).
Spectrometer
A range of spectrometers are available for integrating into your own Raman experiment, with focal lengths and resolutions to suit all requirements – ranging from 140 mm to 550 mm and above. Whether the application is for routine screening, fluorescence and PL mapping, or detailed high resolution Raman research, the spectrometer to match is available.
- High precision spectrometers with low stray light levels and options for high spectral resolution
- Gratings and sampling optics optimized for Raman
- Upgradeable spectrometer platform ready to expand to fluorescence, PL, and optical spectroscopy
Software
LabSpec 6 Spectroscopy Software
The LabSpec6 spectral software suite used on all the HORIBA Jobin Yvon analytical and research Raman spectrometer systems is now also available for modular Raman systems. It has been designed and written as a dedicated Raman spectroscopy package and offers many powerful capabilities not found in a basic spectroscopy software.
Accessories
Vial/Tablet Sample Holder
The vial/tablet sample holder incorporates an adjustable steering mirror, interchangeable focusing lens, and safety shutter.
Steerable Collimated Beam Mount
The steerable collimated beam mount is provided for customers who need access to the confocal collimate beam. It allows for projection and steering of the collimated output beam with precision alignment and interchangeable focusing optics, for applications requiring long-range collection paths.
Adjustable Probe Tip Mount
The adjustable probe tip mount allows for alignment of the tip and tilt of a compatible 0.5” probe collection tip for immersion or contact measurements.
Fixed SwageLok Probe Tip Mount
The fixed SwageLok probe tip mount uses a SwageLok type fitting to couple a compatible probe to the THz Raman module in a fixed geometry.
