The measurement of fuel consumption is necessary for testing and validation of combustion engines during research and development. Using a fuel flow measurement system allows developers to optimize the engine’s fuel consumption in dynamic as well as stationary load points, which is necessary for best fuel consumption results in test cycles, such as NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) and WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedure). The majority of fuel consumption tests is carried out on engine test stands for light- and heavy-duty engines but the measurement results can also be validated with another testing cycle on a powertrain test stand or chassis dynamometer.
