Available as an imaging spectrograph or a scanning monochromator, HORIBA’s MicroHR spectrometer offers excellent flexibility and performance in a small and affordable package. These spectrometers benefit from the highest quality of gratings, also designed and manufactured by HORIBA. A rugged, high throughput optical system, the MicroHR is an ideal, affordable tool for a wide range of spectroscopic applications.

Monochromator Hardware

Slits

The MicroHR comes available with two different choices for manual slit assemblies, either fixed or micrometer adjustable slits. A manually adjustable height limiter allows the user to quickly shut or open the light path to 1 mm and 15 mm heights. You can add accessories to the MicroHR series spectrometers to obtain optimum results for a variety of applications. To attach the accessories to the MicroHR, use the two tapped holes on the body of the slit. These holes are also useful for connecting the MicroHR with your experiments and equipment. When connecting with the iHR, it is important to know the distance from the mounting face of the slit’s body to the slits.

Fixed Slit Assembly

The fixed slit assembly can hold different slit inserts ranging in physical size from 12 to 4000 microns. See below for corresponding bandpasses (grating dependent).

Since the acquisition by HORIBA of Jobin Yvon, a spectroscopy company founded in 1819, HORIBA Scientific has continued to define the leading edge of the Optics of Spectroscopy.

For the last 40 years HORIBA Scientific has taken a leading position in the design, development and manufacture of master and replica diffraction gratings. HORIBA Scientific diffraction gratings are found in both high volume OEM instruments and in world class cutting edge scientific applications. Our pattern of leadership in optics has been hallmarked by the continuing development of both classically ruled and holographic diffraction grating technologies. This led to the introduction in 1967 of the aberration corrected holographic grating and subsequently ion etched and blazed concave and plane holographic gratings.

The MicroHR series of spectrometers take full advantage of the highest quality of gratings that HORIBA designs and manufactures.

A Vast Array of Choices

There is a wide selection of gratings to choose from depending on optical requirements.  Gratings are 32 x 32 mm for the MicroHR. There are three different types of gratings available; classically ruled, holographic, and blazed holographic. There is also a flat mirror that may be ordered for the dual grating turret option.

Ruled gratings

Select for applications where high throughput or low groove density is required, or when working in the infrared.  Typically, they have high throughput at the cost of higher stray light. 

Holographic gratings

Available in higher groove densities for finer resolution requirements and are excellent choices for experiments with laser excitation such as Raman or laser induced photoluminescence. They provide the lowest possible stray light possible, sometimes at the cost of lower throughput. 

Blazed holographic gratings

These gratings have the same advantages as holographic gratings with better throughput.

Groove Density

Ruled gratings and blazed holographic gratings have two fundamental parameters to choose from; the groove density, expressed in grooves (or lines) per millimeter, and the blaze angle which nominally refers to the peak reflectance wavelength expressed in nanometers.

The groove density of the selected grating affects the resolution and mechanical scanning range of the monochromator.  Below is a reference chart showing the affect groove density has on the mechanical scanning range of the monochromator as well as the reciprocal linear dispersion of the slits.

The automated version of the MicroHR has a dual grating turret allowing you to select two different gratings, to optimize throughput in different wavelength ranges and provide multiple options for different resolution requirements. The grating turret assembly can be easily replaced with a different turret assembly to extend the wavelength range or resolution of the MicroHR.

The Diffraction Grating Calculator below can be used to determine the various optical performance specifications of HORIBA spectrometers when used in conjunction with selected spectroscopy cameras, point detectors and various grating alternatives. It is a very useful tool with pull down selections of all of our current spectrometers, cameras and gratings.

Computer Control

In addition to wavelength control the MicroHR has an optional automated turret control and automated control of the optional internal five position filter wheel.

There are multiple software platforms to choose from for spectrometer control and acquisition.

LabSpec

HORIBA’s world renowned software platform, LabSpec is ideal for most Raman and photoluminescence applications. It offers advanced capabilities, with expert functionality, control and flexibility. LabSpec is the first choice for most spectrometer customers.

SynerJY™

SynerJY™ software is a fully integrated data acquisition and data analysis program for spectroscopic systems. It is selected for custom spectroscopy configurations not suitable for LabSpec.

LabVIEW™

LabVIEW VI’s are now available for the complete line of instrumentation from the Optical Spectroscopy Division, allowing users to work with the LabVIEW™ development package from National Instruments. This option requires proficiency with LabVIEW™ programing.

SDK

Software Development Kits (SDK’s) are available for programmers who wish to write their own software control of HORIBA spectrometers. This option absolutely requires proficiency with programing

 

Compatible Optical Building Blocks

The MicroHR series spectrograph is one of many inter-connectable Optical Building Blocks available from HORIBA Scientific. These Optical Building Blocks can be ordered together to form a subassembly or even a complete custom spectroscopy solution.

C-Mount Adapter

The MicroHR series can be provided with ational C-Mount coupler accessory for the exit port that allows it to be coupled to cameras that use a C-Mount thread. It can also be equipped with an entrance side C-Mount coupler so that it can be directly attached to a microscope with an appropriate C-Mount detection port.

Fiber Light Guides

We offer a selection of fiber optic and liquid light guides to choose from depending on the application.

Lens based fiber-coupler with f/# matching optics for SMA and ferrule (part number 220F, or 220F-AFC for FC Mount fibers).

Direct fiber-coupler with no optics for 10 mm and 0.25″ ferrule with thumbscrew x-y adjusters, (part number AFO-XY)

Mirror based fiber-coupler for 10 mm ferrule (part number J23078640). Contact us for information about SMA and FC adapters.

Simple fiber-adapter for 0.25″ ferrule (part number 120F).

The MicroHR comes available with two different optional internal filter wheels which are positioned at the entrance port of the MicroHR spectrometer.

Single Channel Detectors

HORIBA offers a comprehensive array of single point detectors for a wide variety of applications in spectroscopy and biomedical research. These are complete detectors including housings, power supplies and facility for cooling if necessary. Spectroscopy Cameras

HORIBA Scientific offers a complete line of spectroscopic multi-channel detectors for scientific research. For spectral detection from UV to near-IR, two dimensional CCDs and indium gallium arsenide linear arrays offer a faster acquisition option over single point detectors with very high sensitivity. Coupled with HORIBA’s range of aberration corrected, flat field imaging spectrographs, custom spectroscopy packages can be assembled for a variety of applications. To learn more, click here.

Broad Band Light Sources

HORIBA Scientific has an excellent selection of broadband light sources. If you would like to couple the spectrograph/monochromator to one of these light sources, then we have adapters to physically connect them and create a tunable illuminator.
