HORIBA Veloci™ BioPharma Analyzer Recognized Among Analytical Scientist’s Top 10 Innovations

New analyzer sets a new benchmark for fast, green, and compliant biopharma testing.

Piscataway, N.J. – Nov. 05, 2025 – HORIBA is proud to announce that the Veloci™ BioPharma Analyzer, based on the company’s A-TEEM™ (Absorbance-Transmittance Excitation Emission Matrix) spectroscopy technology, has been selected by The Analytical Scientist as one of its Top 10 Most Innovative Analytical Products of the year. The annual list highlights instruments that introduce new analytical capabilities and address critical challenges in research and industry.

The Veloci™ system applies fluorescence and absorbance spectroscopy to provide rapid molecular fingerprinting and quantification without the need for chromatographic separation or extensive solvent use. Each analysis generates a full excitation-emission matrix in a matter of seconds, allowing users to obtain information about the molecular composition and structure of biopharmaceutical samples in real time.

This approach offers an alternative to traditional high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) workflows, which can require extensive sample preparation and long analysis times. HORIBA developed Veloci™ to meet the growing need for faster, more sustainable, and compliant analytical tools in pharmaceutical research and production environments. By combining absorbance, transmittance, and fluorescence excitation-emission measurements in a single acquisition, the system enables a more data-rich, optical approach to molecular analysis.

“Our objective with Veloci was to address the analytical delays and complexity associated with conventional methods,” Cary Davies, Global Product Line Manager for Fluorescence at HORIBA said. “By using A-TEEM spectroscopy, it is possible to acquire high-resolution optical fingerprints that characterize biopharmaceutical samples directly, without columns or solvents.”

The instrument was originally inspired by applications of HORIBA’s Aqualog® spectrometer, which has been used in environmental research to characterize dissolved organic matter. Adapting this optical approach for biopharmaceutical analysis requires new software and compliance features suitable for regulated industrial environments.

“The development of Veloci involved close collaboration with pharmaceutical partners,” added Davies. “Their input helped ensure that the system could integrate into existing quality and validation frameworks while meeting regulatory expectations.”

The Veloci™ BioPharma Analyzer is currently being applied in several areas of biologics characterization, including monoclonal antibody discrimination, vaccine formulation, stability assessment, and AAV quantification. Its non-destructive nature allows for repeat measurements and supports the use of minimal sample volumes.
