Among these Code of Ethics articles, respect for human rights is recognized as an important social responsibility for the sustainable conduct of corporate activities into the future, and the HORIBA Group Human Rights Policy is hereby established. We also promote initiatives to respect human rights under our sustainability system, including the Sustainability Committee.

1. Respect for human rights
We recognize that respect for human rights is a significant social responsibility and therefore we have respect for human rights of all people. This policy is based on principles and guidelines set forth in the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights”, the “ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work”, the “Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact”, the “United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights”, and the “OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises”.
2. Scope of the policy
This policy applies to all board members, officers, and employees of the HORIBA Group. In addition, we expect all business partners, such as suppliers and sales agents, to understand, support, and respect this policy.
3. Governance
We have established a sustainability committee chaired by a director, with relevant department managers appointed as committee members, to promote initiatives related to respect for human rights. Matters discussed by this committee are reported by the chair to the Board of Directors at least once a year, and the Board supervises these activities.
4. Human rights due diligence
We conduct human rights due diligence and establish processes to identify, prevent, and mitigate actual and potential adverse impacts that our business may have on human rights. If we identify that we may have caused or contributed to adverse impacts on human rights, we will promptly investigate the situation and take appropriate measures to provide remedy and prevent recurrence. The effectiveness of such responses is properly evaluated and verified, and the status of responses is appropriately communicated to stakeholders.
5. Remedy
In order to respond promptly and appropriately to any human rights violations, including harassment and compliance violations, or cases where there is a risk thereof, we establish consultation and reporting channels. We also put in place an effective system to ensure fair investigation and corrective actions regarding reported matters. We strictly maintain the anonymity and confidentiality of whistleblowers and those cooperating with investigations and do not tolerate any disadvantageous treatment to them as a result of their reporting or cooperation. If any disadvantageous treatment is identified, we will promptly take corrective action.
6. Education and training
We provide ongoing and appropriate education and training based on this policy to ensure that all board members, officers, and employees can act with respect for human rights.

(Appendix) Policy on Addressing Human Rights Issues
Atsushi Horiba, President & CEO(now, Chairman & Group CEO) of HORIBA, Ltd., signed the Letter of Commitment of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and submitted it to the United Nations through the office of Global Compact Japan Network. On April 28, 2011, HORIBA, Ltd. was registered as a participant in the UNGC.
The UNGC is a strategic policy initiative for businesses with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.
We are determined to take a proactive approach to these issues in order to continue a sustainable growth as a global corporation.
The UNGC was officially established in July 2000 proposed by then the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan.
Human Rights
Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
