Particle Sizing of the Catalyst Ink for the Cathode Material of the Fuel Cell

The particle size of the catalyst ink determines the surface area and porosity of the catalyst, which influence its efficiency and detachability, and diffusivity of gas. Therefore, it is important to design and manufacture the particle size distribution of the catalystink, corresponding with the purpose. However, the catalyst ink used for a fuel cell is normally in a slurry state. On the other hand, sample dilution is a mandatory pre-treatment for particle size distribution analysis of a black color material like the catalyst ink. The issue is that the particle size distribution result might change from the working components, once the sample is diluted.
