A-TEEM Multidimensional Fluorescence Spectroscopy as a Powerful Tool for Unveiling Drug Release Kinetics in Liposomal Delivery Systems

Advancements in microfluidic technology have significantly improved drug delivery by enabling precise fabrication of liposomes, which are highly effective carriers for controlled therapeutic release. This study, result of a feasibility collaboration between HORIBA and the University of Strathclyde (UK) and facilitated by the Centre for Process Analytics and Control Technology (CPACT), demonstrates how A-TEEM (Absorbance-Transmission Excitation Emission Matrix) spectroscopy can be a powerful technique to analyse doxorubicin release from liposomes.

A-TEEM spectroscopy offers a sensitive, rapid, and non-destructive alternative to traditional centrifugation methods for analysing drug release from liposomal formulations. It effectively quantifies drug release in both buffer solutions and cellular environments, demonstrating its versatility and precision in studying therapeutic agents' behavior in biological systems.
