Pitot Tube Exhaust Flow Meter

The Pitot Tube Flow Meter, PTFM-1000V2 is a standalone interface for measuring exhaust gas flow rate of combustion engines. The system uses the tried-and-tested pitot tube principle with high-frequency transducers to accurately measure highly pulsating exhaust flows with a sampling rate of 1kHz. This rapid capture rate ensures that any pulsations or exotic behaviour in an engine is measured, and the unique design of the PTFM pitot tube means reverse flows can be measured with the same guarantee of sensitivity. The interface can be run standalone with a laptop, or seamlessly integrated to run alongside an analyser system without adding any more steps to the test cycle process.

  • Direct exhaust measurement
    The interface provides a real-time display of exhaust flow well within the accuracy requirements of ISO 16183.
  • No interference to engine operation
    Fuel or air flow measurements are not required.
  • Eight sizes of flow tubes available
    A range of flow tube sizes are available (for flows of 2-65m3) to best match a given engine’s paramaters and maximize accuracy.
  • Automatic flow tube type detection
    The interface unit automatically detects the type of tube attached to it, and is instantly ready to use without any additional input from the operator.
  • Automated Zero and Purge Sequences
    The interface can be set to automatically zero the differential pressure transducers before a test and backflush the piping after a test – the system is fully automated once integrated into a cell.
  • Non-Invasive Measurement
    No sample is taken from the exhaust stream, so no compensation is required on the analyser’s end.
  • Annual calibration
    The tubes and interface are calibrated separately, so the tubes can be interchanged between any interface.
  • Multiple data output options
    10Hz analogue, RS-232 or LAN outputs are available.

  • Exhaust Pressure Sensor (±10 kPa gauge) Additional sensor to measure tailpipe exhaust pressure.
