Development of Asia and HORIBA’s Analysis Technology
Author: Hu LI – It is while the globalization of the world economy is advanced, and the needs for various measurements are increasing especially remarkably with economic growth in 30 recent years in the field over many topics of industry, the environment, medical, and the research and development, etc. in each country of Asia. The HORIBA group uses the analysis technology, positively relates in the advancement of the Asian society, and works on the measurement needs well as adjusting of the diversity in many Asian countries. The staffs of each company in HORIBA group are investigating the local situation in each country and the region, developing and improving the instruments, measurement systems and the measurement techniques in cooperation with the local governments, the universities, research laboratories and the enterprises, and meeting the best measurement needs in each field.

Trend of Automotive Emission Regulations and Required Measurement Systems in China
Author: Hideki NAKANISHI; Toshihiro IKEUCHI – It is quite important to understand the latest trend of automotive industry in China, whose economy is growing up so fast in 21st century, from both environmental and business point of view. In China, environmental concern comes to be heightened along with automotive industry growth, and vehicle emission standards have been rapidly established for reducing pollutants. In this movement, emission measurement systems for R&D and/or certification purposes, which contribute to reduce pollutants in engine emissions, are highly demanded. This paper describes the latest trend of automotive industry in China and Chinese emission regulations for light-duty vehicles, heavy-duty vehicles, motorcycles and non-road engines. HORIBA’s solution and products are also introduced as required measurement systems for Chinese emission regulations and as appropriate measurement and control systems for R&D of next generation vehicles such as hybrid electric vehicles.

Overview of Continuous Emission Monitoring of Stack Gas emitted from Stationary Sources in China
Author: Hideki HATAKENAKA – With constant economic level it reached recent years, concern over environmental preservation also remains higher attention in China. Developments of laws including air pollution prevention are performed and gas discharged from chimneys of thermal power plants or various factories is taken up as a control subject. These measurements are performed by the continuous emission monitoring systems of stack exhaust gas, which acquired China national certification. Based on HORIBA group progress on the exhaust gas measurements in China, this article is trying to describe the actual situation of China’s exhaust gas measurement from the topics of China national certification application and system installation examples. And the overview of the HORIBA system is also introduced.

Developing the Standard Sample for the Reticle/Mask Particle Remover - Particle Remover RP-1 -
Author: Tomoya SHIMIZU – In manufacturing semiconductor devices, removing particles on a pellicle and a glass surface of a reticle has been frequently done by manual air blow or by adhesive substance. In this case, pellicles can be contaminated. To reduce the risk of causing such errors and keep reticles clean over the long term, we developed the Particle Remover RP-1 that automatically removes particles on a pellicle and a glass surface. This time, developing the standard sample allows to measure removal rate and repeat test, which assure performance of RP-1. Moreover, time dependency of the removal rate after attaching particles is reported.

Development of Mercury Analyzer for Stack Gas - ENDA-Hg5200 -
Author: Koji ISHIKAWA – We made a design the new mercury analyzer for stack gas, amid mounting international concern over environmental from heavy metal. It was difficult for us to measure the mercury, because gaseous mercury is high reactivity with other material and susceptible to coexistence gas. Especially, existing analyzer had a problem that stability of measurement value was no good. So, we selected the materials at sample line and examined most suitable condition for measurement mercury, and made a design new dry reducing catalyst in the probe unit. And we made a design new hydrogen chloride scrubber for extend the catalyst lifetime. Analyzer uses cold vapor atomic absorption and cross-modulation method, therefore can measure high sensitivity and stability.

Introduction of the New H-1 Series Water Quality Instruments
Author: Susumu YAMAUCHI – We have developed the H-1 Series to provide a comprehensive water quality instrumentation product offering for a wide variety of applications. The measurement parameters include the 9 most commonly required parameters for monitoring water quality (pH, DO, ORP, F-, Conductivity, Resistively, MLSS, Turbidity, Residual Chlorine). Unique features incorporated in the design are a new glass membrane for pH, a MLSS sensor with high resistance to fouling, a low drift turbidity sensor with transmitted and scattered light detection at a 90°scattering angle, a changeable cathode electrode for residual chlorine analysis and a special purpose electrode for electrochemical cleaning. We targeted sensor enhancements to meet user demands for easy maintenance and longer sensor life as well as transmitter EMC improvements with wider temperature operating ranges and a more rugged environmental design. The H-1 Series instruments are available now. We will introduce the features and characteristics of the H-1 series in detail.

Development of Immunoassay Test Kit “SmartAssay Series” for Pesticide Analysis
Author: Shiro MIYAKE – Twenty one kinds of direct competitive ELISA test kits were developed for checking insecticides and fungicides. The pesticides are applied just before harvests. Low molecular compounds including pesticides do not have an antibody by producibility themselves. However, some of them produce antibody by binding covalently to the surface of immunogenics protein to innoculate. These compounds are called hapten and anti-pesticide antibodies were also prepared by this behavior. In the basic examinations of hapten design and antibody preparation, it was found that monoclonal antibodies showed higher reactivity to the pesticides than polyclonal antibodies and efficient reaction property to pesticide analysis such as tolerance to organic solvent. Pesticide residue analysis test kits “SmartAssay series” developed based on such a knowledge have been evaluated by researchers as applicable to residual pesticide analysis in farm products. The kits are used for pesticide test before shipment.
